One of my favorite ways to pamper myself and get prepared for the week ahead is by completing certain beauty rituals once a week. You could do one of these nightly, however I most prefer taking a day on the weekend (Sunday is my favorite) and do them all at once. It’s such a relaxing experience that I look forward to all week. So, grab your coziest robe, softest slippers, a great smelling candle and your favorite beverage and  commence!
Here are my favorite practices:

1.  Give your hair a treat.

I adore putting a good mask in my hair once a week and letting it sink in for a few hours.

Bumble & Bumble: This hair mask is so cool! You apply it to dirty hair and let it sink in. It’s a mask that gives your hair so much more softness! I apply it to dirty hair and wait a few hours then shampoo it out.

Olaplex:  This is the best mask I’ve ever seen!  I get my hair wet and towel it dry. Then I apply my favorite mask: Olaplex. Olaplex is a healing treatment that renews the quality of your hair. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s the best for renewing your hair and eliminating damage.

2. Do an at home micro-dermabrasion.

This little gem has been in my beauty arsenal for YEARS! It feels like it gives me a whole new layer of skin. While pretty gentle, it’s powerful! It buffs away all the dull dry skin and leaves you so very glowy. It’s a holy grail item for me!

3. Scrub and Mositurize.

After the mask, it’s time for shower. I adore this scrub from Trader Joe’s. The lavender scent is so calming and the scrub is the best one I’ve tried. It’s hydrating but exfoliates so well.

After a shower, I apply a thicker cream. I try to do it within 3 minutes of exiting the shower as that’s when your skin is most receptive to adding moisture. This one from Bath and Body Works is my favorite. I love anything almond scented.

4.  Face Mask!

Face masks come next while your pores are still open. The following are all ones I adore.

I have to say, the Sephora sheet masks are a fun treat.

The Aveda mask is wonderful to sleep in. When you awake, you have the skin of a bride. It’s a game changer.

The Glam Glow mask is great for adding moisture and is one of my all time faves.

The Bouncy Mask leaves your skin so revitalized. It plumps and gives you the most radiant complexion.

The Boscia Mask is great when my skin feels congested. I love being able to peel away the mask and all of my clogged pores with it!

5. Bath & Manicure.

This is my favorite part. When the day is just about over, draw yourself a hot bath with this amazing lavender bubble bath. It’s great for helping you to relax and gets you totally ready for bed. I find that grabbing a good book, a candle and maybe even a glass of wine sends this to the next level.

After toweling off, applying lotion & donning your favorite pjs, give yourself a manicure. These Essie gel polishes are the best I’ve found.

If there’s one makeup item that I cannot stop purchasing it’s lipstick.  Specifically, nude lipstick.  It goes with every makeup style, every outfit, and nearly every occasion.  Nude lipstick is forever a favorite of mine.  Here are my top 5 that I would purchase over and over again.

Winner for Best Lipliner and Lipstick Combo:

Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk & Lipstick in Kim K.W.  This combo makes for the perfect defined nude lip.  When I want a little extra defined nude lip, this is the way to go.

Winner for the Barely There Nude Lipstick:

Chanel Rouge Allure in 168 Rouge Ingenue:  This lipstick is like your lips but better.  It’s a must have.  You barely need a mirror to apply it.  I love this on the days where I’m more casual.

Winner for Most Used Light Nude Lipstick:

Tom Ford Nude Vanille:  This one is a long time favorite of mine.  I love the lighter colored nude that it is & the silky texture.  I just haven’t found a light pinky nude that I love quite as much as this lipstick.

Winner for Most Used Dark Nude Lipstick/Best Showstopper:

Christian Louboutin Lipstick in Just Nothing:  This lipstick was a gift from my hubby this past Christmas.  It was something that I’d looked at for a long time but couldn’t bring myself to buy.  I know what you’re thinking.  It’s so expensive.  I can’t believe I’m about to say it but I actually think it’s worth it.  This lipstick’s packaging is beyond gorgeous.  I love the darker nude coloring and the texture is absolutely the smoothest, most buttery lipstick I’ve used.  I’m beyond obsessed.  It’s just one that makes you happy to put on.  I can say without doubt that when I finish it, I will repurchase.

Winner for Silkiest Lipstick:

YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick in No. 1:  The packing and texture of this lipstick is dreamy.  It glides on and feels like a balm.  I adore the color and the slip that it has when it is on the lips.  However, I will say, it is the shortest lasting of all the lipsticks in this post.  That being said, it’s so cute that I don’t mind reapplying.

What are some of your favorite nude lipsticks?  Do share….I’m a sucker for them and would love to try some new ones!

Abbie

Like most girls, I love playing with makeup.  Most products that I use have been in my collection for quite some time and have taken up nearly permanent residence in my collection.  These are all the products that I use every single morning.

Skin:

It Cosmetics CC+ Color Correcting Full Coverage Cream in Medium:  I’ve purchased 4 tubes of this foundation and adore it.  It has amazing coverage and doesn’t make me break out.  I love that it also has an anti-aging serum built in.

It Cosmetics Concealer in Light:  I love this concealer.  It is perfect for under the eyes.  I love applying it in an upside-down triangle shape under each eye and blending to really provide coverage and lift for tired eyes.

Mac Studio Fix NC30:  I’ve used this compact for almost a decade.  It is fabulous on its own or as a finishing powder over the CC cream.

Cheeks:

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact in Rose:  This is my all time favorite blush.  It gives you such a natural glow.  I adore the lit from within look it provides.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Champagne Pop:  I’ve used this gold highlighter every day for more than a year.  It’s the perfect amount of highlight.  It can be applied sparingly during the day or applied heavier for night.

NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder in Sunny:  This bronzer is easy to apply and provides a subtle glow.  I’m so interested in trying the Chanel bronzer though.

Brows:

Anastasia Dipbrow in Caramel: Anastasia has the market for best brow products.  I’ve used this religiously for over a year.  I love how it lasts all day and gives my brows a little added definition.

Eyes:

Benefit They’re Real Tinted Lash Primer |  It Cosmetics Superhero:  These are the two best eyelash products I’ve tried in a long time.  I put on a layer of primer & two layers of mascara each morning.  See this post here for my full lashes routine.

Tarte Lash Curler:  My curler was a special Christmas edition.  This is one of my faves.

Loreal Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner:  This liner is perfect for the waterline.  I’ve had mine for over a year….this is a product that really lasts as a little goes a long way.

Elf Intense Ink Eyeliner:  This little $3 eyeliner is so good.  It’s jet black and creates a seamless line every single time.  I was surprised at how much I loved it.  It’s taken up residence in my daily routine.

Lips:

My lip products change daily depending on my mood.  However, my favorite brands include Charlotte Tilbury, MAC, YSL and Tom Ford.  Look out for a post soon all about my favorite lipsticks!

What are some of your favorite makeup products I should try?  I’m always on the look out for the next fabulous piece!

There’s one question I get asked in real life almost every single day.  Believe it or not, the question isn’t, “Where is that sweater from?  Where are those shoes from?”.  It’s actually, “Are your lashes real?” and with an astonished glance from the questioner, I reply, “Yes.”

Lashes are without doubt my favorite part of my makeup routine.  Honestly, if I could only choose one facet of makeup and forgo makeup on the rest of my face, I would hands down choose to do my lashes.  There’s something that applying makeup to them does to my mindset.  I instantly feel more feminine.

That being said, my lashes have had a journey from being average sized to being exaggerated by lash extensions, to being stubby when the said extensions fell out, to now being long due to my secret weapon.  This is their journey.

These are my lashes today using my secret weapon and two great mascaras (which I will mention at the end of the post).

Natural Lashes:

Let’s take a stroll back in time to about a year ago when I had natural lashes.  This is what my normal lashes (without help) look like with 2 coats of volumizing mascara on.  Naturally, my lashes are blond and aren’t really visible without mascara.  As you can see they are much shorter than they are today.  They are stick straight and do not hold curl.

Lash Extensions:

Last January, in the quest for longer lashes, I choose to get lash extensions.  I adored them and spent every Saturday morning every two to three weeks getting them filled for six months.  While the initial appointment was more expensive, each fill for my lash extensions was around $100 after I had tipped by artist.

My lash artist always did an amazing job.  I babied my lashes by not using any oil based products on them, slept on my back to preserve them, and refrained from touching them in order to keep them as fresh as possible for as long as possible.  Even with being extra protective of my lashes, by the end of a week, I would have the urge to get them filled as they would be starting to disappear.  While my lash artist always noted that I had a lot of natural lashes so she was able to add a lot of extensions to them, I always felt at the beginning of week two (the 7th day) that I was beginning to feel naked.  I didn’t have the time or desire to spend $100 a week on my lashes so I got them filled every 2-3 weeks on average.  It was during this one to two week span that I really began to miss mascara.  Because lash extensions are only applied to your top lashes, I always felt on days 7 and beyond that my eyes started looking very tired and I didn’t have that bright eyed glow mascara or new extensions give you.  I always really missed that during this timeframe.

I ultimately heard about Neulash and began wondering what all the hype was about and decided to give it a try as I was beginning to get frustrated with how my lashes looked in between fills.

Pros of Lash Extensions:  Lashes look full and amazing for about a week, length/curl is determined by you and your lash artist, ability to speed through your makeup routine as there is no need for mascara

Cons of Lash Extensions:  Expensive, time consuming, has the ability to harm natural lashes, in between fills your lashes might not be as full as you would like

(with lash extensions right after a fill)

Lash Extensions Falling Out:

I had heard so many good things about Neulash that I got to the point where I had to try it.  I got one final fill and purchased Neulash that same day.  I had heard that when your extensions fall out over the course of a few weeks, your lashes may be slightly shorter than you remember (perhaps because they were damaged in the process OR just because you are so used to the extensions that your natural lashes feel short).  I began applying Neulash the day I got the fill in order to get a head start on the growth cycle that Neulash needs to show results (6 plus weeks before you notice anything).  As my extensions began falling out, my lashes were incredibly short.  I was so tempted to put extensions back on as I absolutely hated how they looked.  There was no mascara that could fix their state.  They were incredibly choppy and spiky looking.  Thankfully, I waited it out through this “ugly duckling” phase that lasted a month or two.

(Four weeks after a lash extension fill with mascara)

After About 12 weeks of Using Neulash:

After all of the extensions fell out and I was left with my natural lashes, I continued to apply Neulash before bed every single night.  I went through the entire first tube and noticed some growth.  While the website claims to start seeing results in 6 weeks, I didn’t see anything more than what my lashes were prior to extensions (which was an improvement at that point because my lashes were very short after the extensions).  However, I keep applying it nightly…at around 12 weeks I really starting seeing longer, thicker lashes.

(After using Neulash for about 12-16 weeks)

Results During the Second Tube of Neulash:

I purchased a second tube of Neulash and continued to use it.  It was with this second tube that I really started seeing results.  My lashes now touch my eyebrows.  They are long and thick in comparison to before.  I no longer feel the need to get extensions because of the results that I have achieved through using it.  I will continue to apply it nightly and it is a holy grail item in my arsenal that I will purchase for years to come.

(Neulash)

My Lash Routine:

(Neulash  |  Benefit They’re Real Tinted Lash Primer |  It Cosmetics Superhero )

These are my top three lash products:

  •  Every night, after washing my face, I apply Neulash to my lash line like I would a liquid eyeliner.  I am consistent and use it every single night.  Skipping nights will deter your results.  Have patience as it takes a few months to see results.
  • In the morning, my mascara routine is comprised of two parts.  I adore both of these products.
    • First, I apply two coats of Benefit They’re Real Tinted Lash Primer to both top and bottom lashes.  I love this primer because it really helps to define each lash and is a brown color.  I’ve always found white primers incredibly difficult to fully cover.  This one eliminates that problem and is also great for days where you want an incredibly natural makeup look when used on its own.
    • Next, I apply two coats of It Cosmetics Superhero atop of the primer.  This mascara adds a lot of volume to your lashes.  I’ve tried a lot of mascaras and it’s definitely one of my all time faves and is in my current rotation.
  • Smile and prepare yourself for lash compliments!

I am by no means a makeup artist but I love dabbling in makeup when I can.  I watch way to many YouTube tutorials/hauls/product reviews to count and almost always end up trying a new something or other because of it.

These are my current favorite products in my makeup & skincare drawer:

Loreal Butterfly Mascara:

It adds great length and volume.  It’s comparable drugstore alternative to my beloved Dior Diorshow Blackout Mascara.

Bobbi Brown Peony Blush:

The best pink blush.  Apply sparingly as a little goes a long way.  It gives the perfect everyday flush.  I’ve repurchased it multiple times in the past few years.

Maybeline Instant Age Rewind Concealer:

A fabulous concealer that hides Louis Vuitton Luggage sized bags!

Mac Angel Lipstick:

A nudish-pinky lip that is great for everyday.

MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation:

This powder foundation goes on in seconds without the mess that the liquids tend to create.  I also love that it doesn’t transfer onto clothes, etc. like liquids I’ve used.  Considering I’ve lost count of how many of these I’ve purchased, it’s safe to say that I’m in love.

MAC Fluidline in Dipdown:

I love this gel eyeliner.  It gives you the perfect line every time (anything from thick to thin to cat eye is totally doable).  I have purchased this over 5 times.  It’s safe to say that it’s a winner.

Urban Decay Naked Palette:

I use this every morning.  It has the most fabulous neutral colors that compliment one another perfectly.  I am hitting pan on so many of the colors that its almost time to invest in a new palette.  I am heavily considering the new Smashbox palette.

Clarisonic Mia:

I LOVE this baby!  It helps my sensitive skin like no other.  This helps keep my breakouts at bay and I  definitely see a difference when I don’t use it for a week.

Philosophy Purity Cleanser:

I have used this sudsy, nourishing cleanser for years.  It removes EVERYTHING!  It will even take off mascara!  It’s a holy grail product for me.

Body Shop Strawberry Body Butter:

Since I wash my hands so often working with my little first graders, my hands are consistently cracking and bleeding if I don’t use this stuff.  I great smell and rich texture help to combat even the driest of skin.  I love it so much that I keep one in my purse and one in the bathroom.

Josie Maran Argan Oil:

This helps to balance out my combination skin like no other.  It also seems to reduce breakouts for me as my skin stays hydrated and doesn’t tend to produce as much excess oil when I use it.  It’s been a favorite for YEARS!  I’ve purchased over 5 bottles of it so far!

Body Shop Strawberry Beautifying Oil:

I hate the feeling of cold moisturizing cream in the morning.  This stuff doesn’t feel cold to the like touch like lotions can.  It helps to lock in moisture when applied right out of the shower for a totally non-greasy feel.  This is another holy grail produce for me.  I have repurchased it twice so far!

Dior Creme de Rose Lip Balm:

When I initially purchased this I thought is was absolutely ridiculous to pay the price for this.  Once I used it, I couldn’t live without it any longer.  There is a reason that it’s a cult favorite.  I keep one on my nightstand and one in my purse because it is literally that good.

What are your favorite beauty and skincare products?  I’m always on the hunt for new great products!  Does anyone have any products that are on the “must try” list?

xoxo,

Abbie

Collecting nail polish has been one of my vices for a few years now.  I had french gel nails for six years straight.  Once I removed them a few years ago, I went nail polish crazy and haven’t really stopped since.  Essie has become my favorite in terms of nail polish brands.  The skinny brush and fantastic formulas are almost always a hit for me.

Since the weather here can’t really seem to decide if its winter or spring yet, I haven’t really been able to fully let go of all of my favorite winter polishes.  However, I have started introducing my favorite spring colors to my nail polish lineup.  That said, these are the best of both.  Here are my current favorite colors that have been in heavy rotation:

The Neutrals:

//OPI Taupe-less Beach (from the newest OPI collection) // Essie Chinchilly (my most used polish of all time) // OPI You Don’t Know Jacques (a favorite of mine for years) // Essie Smokin’ Hot (neutral with a tinge of purple for interest) //

The Brights:

//Orly Beach Cruiser (literally the best neon pink there ever was; which is much brighter in person) // Essie French Affair (an amazing basic light pink) // Essie Mint Candy Apple // Essie Turquoise & Caicos (fabulously close to Tiffany blue) // Marc Jacobs Lola (the best red for my skin tone that I’ve encountered) //

Happy Polishing!

Abbie
