When I was younger I adored short shorts.  In fact, for some reason, as almost every other teenager seems to believe, I thought the shorter they were the better.  ****I’m totally embarrassed by this now….ohhhh to be young & naive!****  Now that I’m older, I find myself not enjoying shorts in the same capacity.  These are short, don’t get me wrong.  However, now that I’m older I firmly believe that if you are going to have one part of you exposed, the other part should be covered.  For example, if I have on a tank top, I’m not going to pair short shorts with it.  Instead, I would wear a longer skirt or pants.  Furthermore, it’s the opposite when wearing shorts.  I’m going to try to cover my arms up a little to make the outfit more chic and appropriate.  It’s all about balance.  The bottom line when dressing during the Summer weather is:  Pick one part of you (arms or legs) that can be somewhat exposed in each outfit and that’s it.  Cover the rest up.  Period.  You will look so much chicer and more pulled together by following this simple rule.

In this outfit, the blush flats & long sleeve top add an element of sophistication to the shorts.  The long sleeve top balances out the shortness of the shorts.  The flats give some interest to the outfit and help to polish off the look.  These shorts could also be balanced out nicely with a loose boyfriend sweater, a white button down, or loose, boho-style lace top as well!

Do you have any rules that you get dressed by?  I would love to hear them!
