Rainy day attire can be difficult to formulate for work. At best, you remain chic, professional and stylish. At worst, you may slightly resemble a child due to the influence of elementary-aged accessories or, worse yet, a drowned rat due to ineffective outfit planning. Rest assured, dressing for the rain doesn’t have to be so complicated. View this post here for additional rainy day outfit tips. Here are a few additional rules that I follow when dressing for a day of rain at work.
1. Choose Solid Wellies.
Leave the patterns for the weekend. Solid colored wellies lend themselves to an office environment with much greater ease. Printed, loud colored wellies can veer into child-like territory all too quickly. Let’s face facts, mornings can be hectic and a race to get out the door…you may not have time to evaluate if your wellies are giving you the wrong vibe. Solids will never do you wrong. Furthermore, if you do not have to leave the work place upon arrival, you might also consider packing a pair of heels to slip into after you get to your desk.
2. Choose an outfit comprised of classic silhouettes.
An outfit that is created based off of classic shapes is sure to lend itself to a professional outfit even with the addition of wellies. This outfit here is comprised of a trench coat and a simple shift dress. It’s accessorized by a structured tote. All of which are classic silhouettes. I find wearing wellies at work the easiest with a dress or slim black pants.
3. When in doubt, dress it up.
If you’re feeling as though your outfit is leaning towards to casual of territory, go a little dressier. Pair a statement necklace and a dress with your boots in order to give them some added chic appeal. When in doubt, elevate your look with pieces that have more formal vibes. Don’t let a rainy day put a damper on your work style! What are your favorite ways to dress for the rain at work?
